DIY Caffeine Infused Eye Serum + Anti-cellulite Coffee Scrub

Have you seen the coffee trend on Instagram recently? Over the last few years, coffee has made its' way from go to morning drink to staple ingredient in cosmetic products leading the market.

Why Caffeine Is Good For Your Skin

Coffee is great for the skin for a few reasons. It stimulates blood flow, which can promote collagen production, it’s the same pH balance as your skin, so it won’t dry or damage your face, and it’s packed with antioxidants, which target free radicals that lead to a number of skin conditions and irritations. Coffee grinds aren’t just to be used on the face, it also can be used on the legs to reduce the visibility of cellulite. It works like this, the antioxidants and caffeine reduce the appearance of cellulite temporarily in two ways. The caffeine acts as a stimulant by dilating blood vessels, temporarily tightening skin and giving off a toned appearance. Additionally, it helps reduce water retention while increasing circulation. Yields:

  • 4 oz

Ingredients:

  • 5 teaspoon almond oil
  • 2 teaspoon avocado oil
  • 1 cup ground coffee beans
  • 1/3 cup maple sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Tools/Equipment:

Instructions:

  1. Freshly grind the coffee beans in a grinder and place the grinds in a small mason jar. Fill the mason jar with almond oil until the all of the coffee grinds are submerged completely under the almond oil. Cover the mason jar with a lid and let the serum infuse for 24-48 hours in a dark or shady cool area.
  2. After you’ve allowed 24-48 hours for the caffeine to infuse into the almond oil, open the lid and pour the mixture into a tree nut bag to capture any leftover beans. Funnel the mixture into a small bowl.
  3. Add one teaspoon of vanilla into the mix along with two teaspoons of avocado oil into the bowl and mix.
  4. Funnel the mixed serum into the roll on applicator or serum storage of choice. Feel free to add a few coffee beans into the serum jar for continued caffeine infusion, or just to be cute. Now it’s time to use the remains from creating this serum and turn it into a coffee scrub.
  5. Place any remaining serum to the side and grab the mason jar with coffee grind remains. Pour ⅓ cup of maple sugar into a measuring cup. Slowly mix maple sugar and remaining serum into the mason jar while mixing what will become your coffee scrub.
  6. Repeat until thoroughly mixed and distributed. Store in a cool or room temperature location.
